Zelensky Rejects Troop Withdrawal from Donbas Despite Potential U.S. Security Guarantees
Ukrainian president insists frontline fortifications are non-negotiable, urges Europe to boost financial support
U
krainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has again ruled out withdrawing Ukrainian forces from the eastern
Donbas region, even amid discussions around potential
U.S. security guarantees, according to a report by Le Monde.
Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine’s military presence in the region remains central to its national defense strategy,
signaling that territorial control will not be compromised
in exchange for external assurances.
The Donbas region has been a focal point of the conflict since 2014 and continues to hold
significant strategic value in Ukraine’s ongoing war with Russia. Analysts say Kyiv’s position reflects a broader
commitment to maintaining defensive strongholds along key frontlines.
Zelensky also called on European allies to
increase financial support, stressing that sustained
economic backing is essential for Ukraine’s war effort.
While details surrounding the proposed U.S. security guarantees remain unclear, Zelensky’s stance underscores
Ukraine’s continued prioritization of sovereignty and battlefield positioning as the war persists.
