📡 The Quiet Crisis Nobody Talks About

There is a quiet crisis in global media that most people never talk about.

It is not the crisis of fake news, though that exists. It is not the crisis of bias, though that is real too. The deeper crisis is one of geography — the invisible wall that separates how the Western world sees itself from how it sees everyone else.

I observed that many in the Western world — particularly in the United States and the United Kingdom — do not see the world beyond their own geography. And anything originating from anywhere else is treated as suspect, inferior, or counterfeit. Not just products. Everything. Ideas. Institutions. People. And that is largely because their mainstream media does not tell them the truth about others.

“Others do not talk or behave the way Westerners do — not because they are inferior — but because they have never had media that convinced them to see the world through a Western lens.”

— Adako Olabode, Founder

🌍 Africa’s Media Failure — And Why It Matters

That alone could have been a minor problem. But the saddest reality is closer to home — in Africa, and in Nigeria specifically.

Nigerian media, when it comes to geopolitics, largely operates as a copy-and-paste machine of Western mainstream narratives. Journalists do not research. They do not ask why, how, or what. They consume the output of foreign newsrooms — outputs shaped by foreign interests — and republish them as truth. The result is a population that consumes a distorted worldview not even its own, and whose understanding of global affairs is filtered through the lens of those who do not share its interests.

✗ The ProblemCopy-paste journalism from Western outlets
✗ The CauseIntellectual dependency rooted in inferiority complex
✗ The EffectA distorted African worldview shaped by foreign interests
✗ The DangerCitizens making decisions based on someone else’s agenda

💡 A Father’s Wisdom. A Son’s Awakening.

I was a product of that distorted worldview. My Christian father gave me something more valuable than certainty — he gave me the wisdom to question things.

I grew up fearing Russia — not because Russia had ever done anything to Nigeria, but because Hollywood films and Western literary texts painted it as a land of mafias and menace. I grew up suspicious of China. Contemptuous of the Middle East — with the exception of Israel, whose narrative I had consumed uncritically. I grew up loving nations whose foreign policies actively interfered with, disrespected, and dictated to my own country.

Then I asked a simple question — one the Bible itself inspired: If I am taught to love my enemies, what exactly is there to hate about a country that has nothing to do with me?

In every measurable way — Russia, China, Iran, North Korea — none of these nations have antagonized Nigeria. None have sanctioned our leaders, interfered in our elections, or dictated our economic policy. Yet Europe and the United States — the nations I was taught to admire — do precisely these things, repeatedly, through policy and diplomacy.

This did not make me anti-West. It made me more honest about the West. A well-informed American is one of the most humble, curious, and excellent human beings you will ever meet. It is the uninformed American — the one whose media has never shown them the world beyond their borders — who speaks with arrogance. Ignorance produces arrogance. Information produces humility.

🎯 Why The AWB News Exists

The AWB News is not a platform built on grievance. We are not anti-Western, anti-American, or anti-anything. We are pro-truth. Pro-context. Pro-humanity.

For the American reader who is tired of being told only half the story about the world they shape with their foreign policy.

For the Nigerian student who deserves to understand why the world works the way it does — without it being filtered through someone else’s agenda.

For the European citizen who senses that mainstream narratives are incomplete but has nowhere else to turn for rigorous, independent analysis.

For every citizen of this planet who believes they deserve to understand the world they live in — not the world someone else wants them to see.

“Every citizen of this planet deserves to understand the world they live in. That is not a slogan. It is the founding principle of everything we do at The AWB News.”
